Intro

At the moment I started this project I wanted to start riding again and my race bike was about 20 years old. That on itself was already reason enough to get a new bike, besides that my only race bike was permanently fixed to my indoor training system. I prefer to assemble a new bike myself and so I started to search for a frame. I wanted a frame of a Belgian brand and it had to be in the colors black, silver, white and yellow. No easy task to start with...

The partslist

Somewhere second half of may 2006 I found a frame which answered to all the prerequisites. Blue Bike in Zonhoven (Belgium) had a new Ridley Icarus (black, silver, white and yellow colors) frame for sale. The model was that of a year ago (model 2005) but the price was OK and the frame was brand new so on 29 may 2006 I bought it. It came with a 4ZA carbon fork and FSA integrated headset. A couple of days later I was lucky and found a new Mavic Ksyrium Elite (black) wheelset in Tongeren (Belgium). A guy had bought a new bike and didn't want those wheels because he had a set of carbon wheels. Some negotiation later I bought them for less then 60 percent of the normal price. I continued my quest for all other parts and finally on 24 July 2006 the final parts arrived. It took me some days before I had the time to start assembling by on the 2nd of august 2006 the bike was ready.
